IBM and Perkin-Elmer will develop advanced semiconductor technology
NEW YORK (UPI) -- International Business Machines Corp. will contribute financing to develop new technology in the semiconductor equipment industry, a crucial sector for U.S. computer manufacturers facing a strong challenge by Japanese competitors.
Perkin-Elmer Corp., a leading manufacturer of lithographic equipment used to produce powerful chips, has formed a new company with Silicon Valley Group Inc., based in San Jose, Calif., and IBM, its longtime main customer.
