CATONSVILLE, Md. - The anticipated fast-paced matchup between seventh-seeded Loyola and Georgetown never materialized yesterday in the first round of the NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament.
Instead of an up-and-down tempo, both teams struggled with possessions and turnovers in the slow game. Greyhounds goalie Jason Born proved to be the difference, stopping a career-high 21 shots in an 11-9 Loyola win before 4,116 at UMBC Stadium.
Loyola (10-3) advances to play second-seeded Princeton (11-1) in the quarterfinals Saturday at 3 p.m. at Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y.
