There was a time, not very long ago, actually, when you could look around the Blackhawks' dressing room and see Chris Chelios sitting at one stall with Steve Smith a few lockers down. Across the room there was Brent Sutter and Gary Suter, Cam Russell and Trent Yawney.
Each a leader, a player who oozed character and heart.
As the Hawks prepare to close another forgettable season today at Columbus, it's time to reflect on what went wrong and why. Never mind the 2-7-0-1 start, the new-but-not-so-improved defense and the lack of scoring from the third and fourth lines.
