Women comprised only 28 percent of the class, and some of the men seemed uncomfortable with even that many. Today there is absolutely nothing novel about female doctors, though there are noticeably more in some specialties, such as pediatrics, and fewer in other specialties--including surgery. Yet if one trend is apparent, it is that female physicians will be dominant in medicine of the future. For this issue we have attempted to pinpoint some of the best female doctors practicing locally.
