Turkmenistan has been the second largest gas producing country in the former Soviet Union, having once produced 83.9 BCM/year. Estimates of its proven reserves of natural gas range between 100-155 TCF, with another 250-300 TCF of reserves in place said to be probable. The government says its proven recoverable reserves are 3 TCM, that the total with probable and possible reserves comes to almost 10 TCM. The government's plan is for natural gas production to reach 71 BCM in 2002, 85 BCM in 2005 and 120 BCM in 2010. Under this plan, exports are to reach 70 BCM/year by 2005 and 100 BCM/year by 2010.
