PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The local BAHRAIN PETROLEUM CO. (BAPCO) currently operates a refinery with an installed production capacity of 250,000 barrels per day at Sitra. And, the company was recently granted the right to look into the feasibility of building a petrochemical complex at the same site.
Construction plans under consideration involve building a naphtha-based cracker that would produce ethylene, propylene and downstream derivatives. As things currently stand, BAPCO is said to be prequalifying consultants to undertake the study that is expected to take 4 to 5 months to complete.
