Most people know Bob Vila as the home-improvement guy, the bearded host of his own television show and a genius with a tile saw.

But on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Eugene, he was portrayed as a "trouble-making celebrity" who injured a woman by repeatedly kicking her seat during a flight from Denver to Eugene in 1997.

Carol Berger, a local teacher and therapist who works with autistic children, sued Vila for what she called a battery that caused excruciating injuries to her lower back.
