In June of 1999, Bryan Murphy, a Detroit native, and his cousin, Gus Conrades, who lived in Greenwich, Conn., launched Wrenchead.com Inc., a web site that sold after-market auto parts to consumers.
Roughly three months into the company's startup, Murphy decided he didn't like the company's business model, and wanted out of the directsales business.
"I didn't like the business model of shipping parts online," he said. "The margins were horrible."
