ERIKA WIRTH THOUGHT SHE WAS through with swimming. Ben Malcolm is just getting started.

And even though they represent different schools, ages and genders, they share a common mission this week at the Class 4A state high school swim championships at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.

Wirth, an 18-year-old senior at South Eugene, and Malcolm, a 16-year-old sophomore at North Eugene, are both state title contenders.
