QP's lead partners in QatarGas and RasGas have had problems with the pricing of LNG. Originally, QP had insisted on a minimum FOB or CIF price, combined with an annual indexing factor based on inflation, to guarantee a good return on investments for the seller. Chubu Electric and a group of seven other Japanese utilities having signed contracts to buy LNG from QatarGas agreed to the minimum price concept. But they disagreed with QatarGas on the details. QP wanted that the price formula be applied to all Qatari LNG ventures, including RasGas, on the following lines: a floor of $3.60/m BTU CIF-Far East, or $2.50/m BTU fob-Ras Laffan, plus an annual escalation factor for inflation...
