CHARLOTTE COUNTY -- From a distance, the county's older strip malls might remind someone of buildings in a 1930s Western movie set.
With their flat facades and obscured roofs, they could be two-dimensional wooden cutouts as much as real buildings.
County officials want to ensure that new commercial buildings -- and buildings getting major renovations -- go beyond the bland, spare designs of the past. At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the county commissioners will hold a public hearing on an ordinance requiring stricter standards for all new commercial buildings.
