PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local MINISTRY OF ENERGY recently concluded a joint venture agreement with the Thailand-based MDX GROUP regarding the construction of what is claimed to be the largest power station in Southeast Asia. According to the terms of the collaborative agreement, the partners are planning to build a power plant with an eventual installed generating capacity of 4,600 Mw. The Tasang hydro power plant is to be sited on the Than River in the southern Shan state. The project, to be implemented in phases, will involve the construction of the first 200 Mw turbine group to be completed in 2007 at an estimated cost of $400,000,000.
