PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The lack of a deepwater port has increased the cost of imports into and exports out of Sao Tome thus hindering economic growth. As a result, the country now has plans to develop a deepwater port on the island of Sao Tome. Currently the island has a shallow draft port that forces major oceangoing ships to anchor over a mile offshore and make use of small lighter vessels to transport items, including containers, to the port's single pier.
