Dragon Oil of Ireland, controlled by the state-owned Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) of Dubai, is the main foreign oil producer in Turkmenistan. Its output now averages about 11,000 b/d, down from 13,000 b/d in 2003. But further work on the wells should raise the production to 20,000 b/d before end-2004, compared to 7,500 b/d in 2000. The oil is of high quality as it is light with low sulphur content. Dragon also produces 25-30 MCF/day of associated gas. In 2001, Dragion said it was to raise its production capacity to 30,000 b/d in 2004 and to 75,000 b/d by 2008.
