DESOTO COUNTY -- Federal officials plan to bring in about 700 trailers and recreational vehicles to house people left homeless by the hurricane, but those makeshift homes won't be available for at least three months.
Until then, South Florida Community College in Arcadia will serve as the county's sole shelter. The college agreed to suspend school at the campus for the fall semester and offer extra classes at its Wauchula campus.
