Like all great Inventions, the baby-friendly matinee serves a dual purpose: for parents fatigued by their new offspring, it's an afternoon of Hollywood distraction; and for babies, it's ideal nap time, as the darkness and general hush of the theatre tends to have a soporific effect. Some theatres screen family fare, while others acknowledge that parents might crave something a little grittier than Finding Nemo. Seeing that baby will either be unconscious or oblivious, there's no harm in letting Mom watch Mystic River.
