A fiber-optic wide area network (WAN) to be ready by December 2005 will speed up Internet connectivity and security, allow broadband applications including videoconferencing, and integrate all the local area networks, according to the Department of Information (DIT).
"The project will connect all the 10 ministries, corporations and autonomous agencies and have provision for international organisations," said the department's system analyst, Pema Choejey. Internet connections would be through the department on a 1Mbps fiber-optic line with Druknet as the Internet service provider (ISP).
