Pathology and Genetics of Tumours of Soft Tissue and Bone: World Health Organization Classification of Tumours FROM THE CRITICS Doody Review Services Reviewer: Bozo Kruslin, M.D., Ph.D. (University Hospital "Sisters of Charity")Description: This book, the fourth in the series of WHO blue books for pathologists, is edited by three well known experts in the field of soft tissue and bone tumors. It provides an international standard for pathologists and oncologists that will serve in routine, daily practice. The book contains numerous illustrations including 966 color photographs, X-rays, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance images of almost all described entities. It is up-to-date, comprehensive, and encyclopedic. Purpose: The book is suitable for all doctors who always wanted to know more about soft tissue and bone tumors but were afraid to ask. It is designed to provide a widely accepted international classification that can serve as a guide for use in routine diagnostics and in clinical follow-up of the patients. The book fully meets the objective. Audience: The book was compiled for practicing pathologists and pathology residents but it could be used by all physicians dealing with tumors of soft tissues and bone, including surgeons of different specialties, oncologists, and radiologists. In addition to the editors, some 144 authors from 28 countries contribute substantially to the quality of the book. Features: The emphasis is on diagnostic criteria, pathologic features, and associated genetic changes. The data on the new ICD-10 codes, incidence, age and sex distribution, location, clinical signs and symptoms, prognostic factors as well as differential diagnoses are included. The best feature is an excellent overview of most important benign and malignant tumors of the soft tissues and bone. It consists of the systematic description of pathologic findings and adequate differential diagnosis of all common, but also rare, entities. Assessment: This is a beautiful and exciting new book in the series of WHO blue books that can be used by practicing pathologists and pathology residents that can also be useful to oncologists, radiologists, and surgeons of every specialty. It is a book that should be bought as a good investment that can be used easily in daily practice. If you are a pathologist, buy two books, one for you and one for a friend.
