This volume presents well over a thousand antiquities and is an extensive resource for those interested in Malta's rich cultural heritage. It forms a companion volume to C. Sagona's The Archaeology of Punic Malta, [2002, Peeters Press], consolidating further the evidence presented in that detailed study.
SYNOPSIS
This companion volume to Sagona's The Archaeology of Punic Malta (2002) catalogs over 1000 ceramic antiquities including pots, bowls, jars, lamps, plates, and figurines. Each item is represented by a b&w photograph and a brief description. Introductory chapters describe Maltas's three cultural periods (the transition from the prehistoric to the historic period, the Phoenician-Punic period, and the Romano- Punic period); characteristics of the ceramics, including ware types, pottery shapes, and coatings and residues; and the collections, including those of the Mdina Cathedral museum and Wignacourt College in Rabat.
