Portikus: 1987-1997
- Book Review,
by Kasper Konig

From Library Journal
This commemorative book chronicles the ten-year anniversary of the German avant-garde and modern art gallery Portikus Frankfurt am Main, one of the key centers of cultural and social activity in Europe. Editor K olle has compiled 20 thoughtful essays relating to this unusual and highly successful alternative exhibition space, which is limited to a single 120-square-meter room. Complementing these essays are illustrated highlights of each of the 82 exhibitions shown at Portikus since its inception in 1987 along with their accompanying publicity posters and publications. Also included are the listings of musical, film, and other special events held in this notable space. There are 19 special artist contributions in the form of illustrations scattered throughout the book. The primary text is in German, with an English translation in the second column on each page. While this book is not for everyone, it should add a bit of international flavor to libraries specializing in 20th-century and avant-garde art.
