Birkhauser Architectural Guide: 20th Century Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg FROM THE PUBLISHER
This new Birkhauser Architectural Guide offers a handy survey of the most important 20th century buildings in the Netherlands. Belgium, and Luxembourg. The authors Herman van Bergeijk and Otakar Macel have selected 500 buildings, including projects in urban areas and smaller towns, as well as in provincial regions. The projects are organized by provinces and towns and are listed with the precise addresses and other detailed information. The buildings are further described through photographs and architectural plans and sections.
Despite their central European location and architectural significance, there have not been any 20th century architectural guides for either Belgium or Luxembourg. Belgium, with buildings by Victor Hone, Josef Hoffmann, and Henri van de Velde, is the country of the Art Nouveau tradition, and is once again taking an independent direction with buildings by Philippe Samyn. During the past 20 years, Luxembourg has become a country brimming with high-quality contemporary architecture, especially as a result of international architects like Arquitectonica, Denys Lasdun, Gottfried Bohm, and Richard Meier.
