Guided-Wave-Produced Plasmas
- Book Review,
by Hans Schluter

Book Description
Guided Wave Produced Plasmas is devoted to an up-to-date status of the physics of plasmas produced by high-frequency electromagnetic fields of guided waves. Discharges generated by travelling surface waves have stimulated research in view of their advantages as electrodeless discharges of high efficiency, promising for various applications to plasma technology. The wide spectrum of potential applications requires both profound and extensive knowledge of the physics of the discharge production under different conditions. Moreover these plasmas pose a challenge to fundamental research and counstitute a typical example of a self-consistent nonlinear problem: The high-frequency power which ionizes the gas and creates the plasma is carried by the wave and the wave propagation is ensured by the plasma produced by itself.

Guided-Wave-Produced Plasmas

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Guided-Wave-Produced Plasmas provides an up-to-date report on the physics of plasmas produced by the high-frequency electromagnetic fields of guided waves. The modelling of discharges generated by travelling surface waves is presented using a unified approach based on modern aspects of nonlinear plasma theory. Diagnostic methods needed for research and the main experimental results on plasma behaviour are discussed. The methods and ideas presented in this book possess great potential for a wide variety of applications in plasma research and technology.
