Doody Review Services
Reviewer: Benjamin Philosophe, MD, PhD (University of Maryland School of Medicine)Description: This is a comprehensive review of the literature and experience of cryosurgery. Purpose: It is intended to provide an overview of the field. Audience: The audience is primarily medical and surgical specialists, particularly in oncology, but the book may also benefit medical students, residents, and nonspecialists. Features: There is great variabiliy in the "feel" of the book. In some chapters, the organization is good, there is little repetition, and the details are well presented. Other areas, however, feel disorganized and lack cohesion as if one chapter was written independent of the next. This tends to create repetition with varied writing styles. There is no evidence of a template format that would provide consistency throughout the book. This may be reflective of the editing. In essence, this gives an appearance of disorganization. Assessment: The book, however, comprehensively covers the field of cryosurgery and it is the best, and perhaps the only, review of its kind.
