by Carol Anne Anne Costabile-Heming (Editor)
Berlin - the Symphony Continues: Orchestrating Architectural, Social, and Artistic Change in Germany's New Capital SYNOPSIS Borrowing their title from Walter Ruttman's 1927 film, Berlin. Symphony of a Great City and similarly seeing the continuing change the city undergoes as "part of an unfinished composition," Costabile- Heming (German, Southwest Missouri State U.), Halverson (German, Washington State U.), and Foell (German, Bowling State Green U.) bring together an interdisciplinary collection of 15 papers exploring cultural change in Berlin since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Changes in Berlin's physical space are discussed, both in terms of outward appearance and in terms of the history and philosophy behind them. Other essays explore representations of Berlin in film and literature, in controversies surrounding music, and in naming and renaming of generations and eras.
