Since 1983 Scratch weekly screenings have remained faithful to two fundamental principles: to enable filmmakers to meet other filmmakers and to encourage exchange. Designed to celebrate experimental cinema, Scratch Book documents the uniqueness of this screening venue. Scratch is different, marginal, fringe: keeping a distance from official history, and making its biases evident. This off beat volume features interviews with Scratch founders, Yann Beauvais and Miles McKane, and republishes several filmmaker interviews from Scratch Revue including Robert Breer and Barbara Hammer. Visually it works like a status report, positioning experimental cinema as a key artistic practice. Scratch Book's aim is to create an irresistible desire to see the films featured and to inspire filmmakers to make more of them.
