About the Author Ruth Leroy is a 1971 graduate of Northern Michigan University with a BA in Education. After ten years of teaching in Chicago Public Schools she decided to pursue a change in career. This was accomplished when she received her degree in Health Information Management from Chicago State University in 1982. Ms. Leroy received her Master's degree in Health Science Education from Governors State University in 1989. Her experience has included time as an Assistant Director at a multi-level hospital, Quality Assurance coordinator with an HMO, and as a Director of Medical Records, Out-Patient Services, and Risk Management at a Rehabilitation Hospital. For the past fourteen years she has been on the faculty at Chicago State University as an Assistant Professor in the HIM-Program. In June of 1996 Professor Leroy was presented with the Faculty Excellence Award for outstanding achievement in teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
