Hurricanes over Malta: June 1940 - April 1942
- Book Review,
by Brian Cull, Frederick Galea

Book Description
Fully revised and updated account of the acclaimed 1987 Grub Street publication, Malta: The Hurricane Years, telling the story of the pilots of the RAF and Commonwealth who flew Hurricanes in defense of Malta between June 1940 and April 1942. Many of these pilots were inexperienced and paid the ultimate price, especially when the more experienced German pilots of the JG26 arrived in early 1941 and again later in the year when more from the JG53 made their presence felt. Since the earlier publication, a number of personal diaries and journals have been found. These are widely quoted throughout to provide the atmospheric background and the thoughts and hopes of some of the pilots who defended Malta. Especially valuable are the personal experiences of Flt Lt James Pickering AFC, who flew Hurricanes with the 261 Squadron. He has also written the Foreword and provided many previously unpublished photographs.
