Best of Memory Makers Scrapbook Lettering FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
Many artists contributed alphabets for this collection of lettering styles designed for scrapbook makers. A variety of tools and markers are shown, with samples of the various lines made by each marker. Methods for reproducing the lettering and page design tips are also illustrated with photographs. Each of the lettering styles is given a name and the whole alphabet is drawn. The fifty lettering styles are arranged in the following categories: "A Touch of Class," "Fun and Funky" and "Through the Ages." Each style gets a two-page spread. Every letter of the alphabet and the ten digits are shown with text describing the inspiration for the lettering. In addition to the full alphabet, a few sample pages show the lettering with full text and photographs in a scrapbook format. The styles are quite diverse and include variations. Collegiate is blocky and would be relatively simple and quick to reproduce. Fishbone and Fleas are quirky and fun, and relatively quick and easy too. Illuminated, with roots in the Middle Ages, would be a wonderful addition to a scrapbook, but ambitious and time consuming. 2002, F & W Publications, Ages 8 up.
