Roar of Silence: Trial and Triumph through Deafness FROM THE PUBLISHER
Kenny Walker was the first deaf player to play football for Nebraska University. Throughout his college career, Kenny showed that his deafness was never a problem. On the field he was an All-American, and in the classroom he was an Academic All-Conference student. Kenny went on to play for the Denver Broncos for two years.
SYNOPSIS
Kenny Walker played for the Denver Broncos after gaining All-American
status at the University of Nebraska, overcoming deafness to make his own
mark in the world. When Kenny was released by the Broncos, he suffered the
same emotions and circumstances that many athletes must deal with when the
applause suddenly stops. The book starts on a dirt road in Iowa where Walker
pulled a rifle out of the back of his truck - in other words, the first
chapter was almost the last. But Kenny Walker dealt with those obstacles,
just as he has since becoming deaf after suffering from meningitis at age 2.
His story is an inspirational one, a story he's never told before in full
because of the limits of speaking through an interpreter. In Roar of Silence,
Walker finally lets everyone know the challenges he faced in college, as a
professional football player, and in the NFL.
