Propaganda and the German Cinema, 1933-1945 FROM THE PUBLISHER
This is the most comprehensive analysis to date of Nazi film propaganda in its political, social, and economic contexts, from the pre-war cinema as it fell under the control of the Propaganda Minister, Joseph Goebbels, through to the end of the Second World War. David Welch studies more than one hundred films of all types, identifying those aspects of Nazi ideology that were concealed in the framework of popular entertainment.

A specialist in propaganda, Welch (modern history, U. of Kent- Canterbury) examines Nazi film propaganda as a reflection of National Socialist ideology. He argues that though Nazism is of thought of as a temporary aberration, it in fact drew on the lkisch/> tradition, a product of 18th-century Romanticism. It is expressions of that tradition that he seeks in the films. The 1983 edition was published by Oxford University Press. Distributed in the US by St. Martin's Press. Annotation c.
