Simple Guide to Customs & Etiquette in the Czech Republic, as with all titles in this series, offers the reader a unique focus on the customs, etiquette and way of life in the newly emerging Czech Republic, providing a wealth of 'insider' knowledge in an easily accessed, pocket book format. 18 b/w illustrations + map

From the Publisher
Simple Guide to Customs & Etiquette in the Czech Republic is one of the Simple Guides series which aims to ensure that the traveller gains a knowledge of common courtesies, basic manners and culturally sensitive taboos in the country being visited. He or she is therefore able to avoid faux pas in conversation, in travelling and in personal relationships and is empowered by an understanding of cultural differences which will help to make a success of the visit, whether it is for business or pleasure. Essential reading for all discerning travellers, Simple Guide to Customs & Etiquette in the Czech Republic will also be of interest to the general reader in today's multi-cultural world.

From the Back Cover
'Many, though by no means all, Czechs see a virtue in outdoing the other by one sort of native wit, sanctioned by their own positive interpretation of the otherwise fairly disreputable Good Soldier Schweik of Jaroslav Hasek's famous novel.'

'The man of the house is acknowledged as the 'head', but a popular saying has it that the woman is really the main figure - the 'neck' of the family which makes the 'head' move. While both will be breadwinners, she remains very much in charge of household matters; relatively few men share in the running of the home, though they may put their 'golden hands' to work on basic repairs etc.'
