The Latin Church in Cyprus, 1195-1312

Presents the history of the secular and regular clergy of the Latin Church on Cyprus during its first century. Drawing largely on papal correspondence, the author analyzes the Church's relations with the crown, the nobility, the Latin urban population, the papacy, the Orthodox Church, and the other Latin Churches of the Latin east. He concludes that, due largely to the conservative policies of Pope Alexander IV, the Church created only a formal unity between Rome and the orthodox of Cyprus.
