Poland - Book Review,
by Jay Heale

From School Library Journal Gr 6-9-Richly detailed and illustrated with numerous striking, full-color photographs, these titles provide up-to-date glimpses of three tradition-laden countries struggling with the process of redefinition. Ethnic groups, native costumes, education, marriage, family life, religion, language, the arts, sports, festivals, and food are described as well as the nations' history, geography, politics, and government. Miscellaneous information is set apart in special sections that add to the eye-catching layout. While the coverage is generally positive, the authors pull no punches in describing current social problems such as alcoholism and other vestiges of the years under Communist rule. Libraries will find these well-organized, carefully researched, readable books useful for a variety of purposes from answering reference questions to providing material for reports.-Sue A.
