Drawing Solutions FROM THE PUBLISHER
Drawing Solutions gives you the answers to these and dozens more similar questions often asked by the aspiring artist. Each solution is clearly illustrated with inspirational examples of sketches and finished drawings by professional artist and author Albany Wiseman. Beginning with an overview of the different drawing tools, Drawing Solutions explains which media are available, the most suitable papers, pens and inks, and how to maintain your equipment. General drawing techniques, such as tonal drawing, hatching, shading and contour drawing, are explored in the second chapter, together with some more unusual techniques, such as stipple, scraperboard and offset drawing, which will encourage even more established artists to expand their repertoire. The final chapter explains how best to compose a landscape, still-life or figure drawing, and brings together a range of the most popular drawing subjects -- from trees and leaves, animals and figure studies to skies, seascapes, and interiors -- with simple tips and suggestions on the most suitable media and techniques for approaching each one. Short step-by-step projects are included throughout to help explain the principles and techniques involved, using a variety of media to suit every artist's taste.

FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
Until now, there was only one book on drawing that this reviewer wholeheartedly recommended: Ian Simpson's Drawing School: The Complete Course. It is truly comprehensive, approachable, and reasonably priced. Rodwell's new Drawing: A Complete Course deserves a place on the shelf alongside Simpson's volume. Rodwell takes us to the fingertip level, down close to the paper to see exactly how to achieve the myriad effects possible with pencil, charcoal, pastels, color sticks, markers, and fiber pens. From macro (drawing from a photo of a New York street scene) to micro (the edge of a steel pen against Fabriano paper), Rodwell is unsurpassed in teaching drawing, and his landmark book should find a wide and enduring audience. In contrast, Taylor's Creative Drawing Course is a good shorter manual, with a fine chapter on developing spontaneity and style, while Wiseman's Drawing Solutions offers a brief overview of the art-not, as the title implies, a book on solving specific drawing problems.
