by Craig Peters
Techniques of Dance for Cheerleading FROM THE CRITICS School Library Journal Gr 6 Up-Anyone who doesn't consider cheerleading a sport should take a look at these titles. Novices will enjoy the clear descriptions of routines and tips on how to get started while advanced athletes can gain some helpful hints. Chants introduces readers to the difference between a chant and a cheer; selections that can be personalized for a particular team appear throughout the book. Jumps are described and illustrated with clear, color photos. Techniques discusses the similarities and differences between dance and cheerleading as well as stretching, attitude, and nutrition. One chapter considers choreography. Both books stress safety, with mention that it is important to have a coach and/or a spotter present.
