FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
Kitchen makeovers are one of the most popular remodeling projects. Many titles offer high-end solutions that leave those on modest budgets with a bad case of kitchen-envy, but this title is different: it shows only one fairly typical 1970s kitchen and then presents an economy, midrange, and high-end makeover. It is remarkable how much can be improved for less than $1000 (the economy makeover). Of course, the possibilities at the higher price ranges are quite attractive, and features from the different price ranges could be combined to create a personalized plan. This format allows readers to determine for themselves where real function ends and luxury begins. A wealth of information is included about kitchen design, common styles, and materials, plus excellent step-by-step instructions for numerous projects (e.g., flooring, cabinets, countertops, walls, plumbing, and electrical). Owing to its excellent format and content, this is probably the most useful book available on the subject and is essential for public libraries. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
