Gary Player's Top Golf Courses of the World - Book Review,
by Gary Player

Book Description Here are fifty-five of the world's great golf courses-all pictured in magnificent full color. With more than 200 stunning photographs, this sumptuous book celebrates golf at its best and most varied. Traveling the globe, golf superstar Gary Player takes the reader on a tour of the greatest golf courses in the world. Together, these courses represent what must be the cream of the world's 30,000-plus. The authoritative text draws on Player's first-hand knowledge of each of the courses and his standing as a course designer. For five decades, Player--winner of nine majors, and himself a golf-course designer of repute--has been playing the world's top courses. His selection here includes ancient British links crafted by nature, such as St. Andrews, Muirfield, Carnoustie, and Royal Lytham; landmark courses created between the wars during the Golden Age of golf course design, such as Augusta (host to the Masters), Cypress Point, Pine Valley, and Wentworth; and examples of the work of top postwar designers who have kept to the classic features of the masters of yesteryear, but have added their own signatures. Each golf course is described in terms of its history and its main architectural features, and is accompanied by superb photography. Player's firsthand experience of the challenges posed by each course and his appreciation of the history of golf-course design underpin this important new book for both the itinerant and the armchair golfer. This is a book perfect for any coffee table and a gift perfect for any golfer.
