Bangladesh - Book Reviews,
by Michael March
Bangladesh FROM THE CRITICS School Library Journal Gr 3-5-These titles cover the basics: land, people, urban/rural life, resources and industry, education, government, sports and religion, transportation, and arts and media. The information is superficial, with two or three paragraphs at most on each topic. Color photos, charts, and occasional sidebars help make these books attractive. "Web Search" boxes appear in several sections, but the sites will be too difficult for the intended audience. Bangladesh appears to have many more statistics in the text than Italy, making it an even drier read. Not as simple as Raintree's "We Come from" books or Carolrhoda's "A Ticket to" series, these titles are comparable in content to Gareth Stevens's "Welcome to My Country" series. Serviceable additions if more country books are needed.-Peg Glisson, Mendon Center Elementary School, Pittsford, NY Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
