Painting Gilded Florals and Fruits FROM THE PUBLISHER
Painting Gilded Florals and Fruits
By Rebecca Baer, CDA
This book shows decorative painters how to enhance their fruit and floral subjects with the traditional elegance of decorative gold, silver and variegated accents.
Thirteen step-by-step acrylic demonstrations provide complete guidance for painting each subject from start to finish, including specialized instruction for using today's metallic-based paints and leafing products to produce the lustrous gilded effects found in old-world decorative painting.
Classic projects make ideal gifts and home accessories, including:
-Glass and porcelain holiday ornaments with floral motifs
-Candle and holder adorned with clematis and berries
-Decorative wooden plate accented with fruit and gold trim
-Gold-rimmed metalware tray with a red poinsettia design
-Pendulum clock featuring clock face with flowers and gilded scrollwork
To ensure success, the author begins the book with a highly detailed introduction to gilding and leafing, featuring step-by-step photos, complete supply lists, and problem/solution demonstrations.

FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
The craft of decorative painting has benefited greatly from the recent proliferation of the types of paints and other supplies now available in craft shops. Projects in both these books use materials that did not exist or were hard to find as recently as ten years ago. Designer/teacher Baer's Painting Gilded Florals and Fruits has sample exercises for applying metal leaf (gold, silver, copper, aluminum) or metallic paints. Step-by-step projects include painting and gilding a wooden bowl, a metal seed box, or an album cover in floral designs. Baskett, owner of a crafts company, presents step-by-step projects for colorful indoor and outdoor furniture using acrylic craft paint combined with decorating techniques. Particularly interesting is a faux parquet project using several wood stains on a plain unfinished chest. Other projects are mainly for new or refinished tables and chairs. Both books are suitable for public library crafts collections needing up-to-date material. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
