MS. Booth's Garden FROM THE PUBLISHER
The Photographs in MS. Booth's Garden are the culmination of twenty years of work by nationally renowned photographer Jack Kotz. They present a poignant and deeply personal look at both a changing rural landscape and the graceful way with which a strong and independent woman adapts her lifestyle to those changes while accepting the new parameters of her old age. Kotz's images are of things and ways, old and new. There are portraits of the aged and the youthful, and landscapes that reflect timelessness among change.
Myrtle Booth, the book's central character, is portrayed in a variety of situations that reflect her daily life. These images convey a sense of dignity and forthrightness that comes from a deeply spiritual existence. This collection is punctuated by images that become small and humorous tributes to some of the more eccentric members of her community.
Ms. Booth's Garden contains one hundred ten color photographs, including thirteen panoramic images printed as double-page spreads. The book opens with a beautiful foreword by Bailey White, author and National Public Radio commentator, and closes with an insightful afterword by the photographer.
