Monkeys and Apes ANNOTATION
An introduction to the physical characteristics, behavior, and natural environment of a variety of apes, monkeys, and some of their close relatives.
FROM THE PUBLISHER
This new natural history series from Peter Bedrick, produced in collaboration with zoology experts at the Natural History Museum in London, introduces young learners to creatures in four different species - insects, sea creatures, monkeys and apes, and frogs and snakes. Photographs show each entire creature and then zoom in on fascinating details in close-up images. The simple but engaging design and accessible text make these volumes the perfect introduction to the animal kingdom.
FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Cathi White
This book is one of a set of four from the Natural History Museum "Animal Close Ups" series that explores different animals and insects. Several monkeys and apes are presented in the book. Close up photographs give wonderful details of each animal such as their hands and fingers. Other details include where the animals live, how they walk, use their hands, and the character of each animal. It is interesting that the giant gorilla looks scary but is actually shy and gentle. Also, the furry colobus monkey has four fingers but no thumb. This book is well written so children can easily understand it. It has a glossary for words that might be hard to understand and an index to make it easier to look up a certain animal. Children will love looking at the cute photographs of the monkeys and apes. They will also enjoy hearing about the details of these interesting creatures. This book would be very helpful in the classroom during science, a special unit on animals, or for reading anytime. 2002, Peter Bedrick Books/McGraw-Hill Children's Publishing,
