Diary of a Newlywed Poet: A Bilingual Edition of Diario de UN Poeta Reciencasado SYNOPSIS In 1916, Spanish poet and Nobel Laureate Jiménez traveled by train and boat from Madrid to New York to marry his fiancee, recording his experiences in a work of lyric poetry first published in 1917. This volume contains the English translation of that work, now recognized as the most important work of the poet and a watershed in Spanish literature in terms of its juxtaposition of prose and poetry and its innovations in symbolic composition. The Spanish original is also presented alongside the English translation on juxtaposed pages. Also included is an introduction by Michael Predmore (Spanish literature, Stanford U.) discusses the poets life and works and discusses the literary contributions of the work to European poetry.
