Kindergarten-Grade 2?The bold colors and numerous photos in this offering will satisfy pint-size wanna-be pet owners. Information is clearly stated and accurate as far as it goes. Artwork and layout are attractive, with "fact blocks" sprinkled throughout. Pictures are sharply focused though painfully posed and occasionally trimmed so close that the animals seem to have had a fur cut. The illustrations showing housing and care are dated. Wood and wire are still used; however, manufactured cages are more common and convenient. Rabbits, in particular, should not be housed on a wood floor as illustrated. Dick King-Smith's I Love Guinea Pigs (Candlewick, 1995) offers fewer facts but is a much warmer introduction to this pet.
