The Senator Must Die
- Book Review,
by Ed Koch, Wendy Corsi Staub

From Booklist
The Koch/Staub team's fourth mystery features the genial, flamboyant, lovably egotistical Koch as the star. Hizzoner's love of a challenging mystery and absolute certainty that he can outdetect just about everyone take center stage, even overshadowing the clever plot. Koch supports longtime pal Senator Anson Hubbard in his campaign to investigate what happened to millions of dollars left in Swiss banks by Holocaust victims. Unfortunately, his investigation is unpopular, especially with the Swiss banking community. When an assassin attacks Koch and Hubbard following a press conference, Koch realizes that someone must be desperate to keep the investigation from succeeding. It's up to the tenacious Koch to use his analytical mind, ability to spot obscure clues, and keen detecting skills to solve the mystery. A mildly entertaining read that should delight Koch's many fans. For larger collections or those where Koch already has a following. Emily Melton

Senator Must Die

FROM THE PUBLISHER

New York City Mayor Ed Koch, his bodyguards, and U.S. Senator Anson Hubbard are leaving a press conference on looted Nazi gold when their party is brutally ambushed. By the time the shooting stops, a bodyguard is dead and Ed Koch is determined to unravel a mystery that strikes too close to home.

FROM THE CRITICS

Kirkus Reviews

The Senator Must Die ( Oct.; 224 pp.; 1-57566-325-2): New York's greatest mayorþjust ask himþteams up for a third outing with Staub (Murder on 34th Street, 1997, etc.), this time thrusting his fictional alter ego into a Swiss/Nazi gold scandal that threatens the life of his old friend Sen. Anson Hubbardþa nice enough guy, but not a patch on Koch in the charisma department.
