What color is India? It's green like the vegetation that covers India during the monsoon season, white like the Taj Mahal, and blue like the Hindu god named Krishna. Get to know India in this beautifully illustrated introduction to a land of many people.
FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Uma Krishnaswami
Part of the "Colors of the World" series, this volume falls short of offering the richness and vibrancy of color one expects from the subcontinent. The artwork is attractive, but muted--hardly how one might describe the region. The text refers to colors in the context of religion, seasons, society, and historical monuments. The pronunciation guide also leaves something to be desired. Since Hindi has combination consonants requiring aspiration, and a 'p' closer to Spanish than to the English 'b,' the simple transliteration used is ineffective.
