Pack your bags or perhaps just this bookwe are headed for Norway. This series has added Norway to the list of numerous other countries that are explored through the written word. Even though Norway and its beauty certainly aren't a hard sell, it is introduced to an age group, early elementary school children, in ways they can easily relate to. The typefont is large and well-spaced. The vocabulary stays appropriate for this age group with the exception of new words italicized and defined immediately within the text or in the back of the book. It contains an impressive array of topics ranging from clothing to church. The illustrations and photographs are well-placed, descriptive and complement the text. The book ends on a particularly relevant note with chapters, "Grab a Book" and "Storytime." Both acquaint them with the writing talent of Norwegians who have provided children with some of the best-loved stories of their early years, such as "Three Billy Goats Gruff." The message that children and cultures share many of the same interests, values and joys across the world can never be repeated too often in literature. 2001, Carolrhoda Books Inc., $22.60.
