FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature
Peter, Haakon, and Niels are in their last days of vacation at home in Bermuda before returning to school in England. They decide to look in a cave for lost pirate treasure and on their second trip, the boys find a small chest underwater. A hurricane crashes into the Bermuda coast while the boys are trying to retrieve the chest and they are stuck in the cave. Unfortunately, some American treasure hunters find the chest at the same time and want to claim it, too. While this should be a gripping story, it is parochial and predictable at all times. Families vacationing in Bermuda may enjoy the book, but the rest of us should plan on other vacation reading. 2001, Burd Street Press, $5.95. Ages 9 to 12. Reviewer: Wendy Pollock-Gilson
