FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This is not the best of the "Happy Snappy" pop-up books, but there are three appealing pops. The opening pop with a zebra snapping his mouth closed is a smile-maker, and another that pictures a baby giraffe looking up, up, up from his mother's knees works well. The mother panda rocking her baby in her arms is charming, but bird beaks and a hippo mouth opening and closing are very ordinary, and the wheel on the page of chameleons that changes only small spots on the chameleons' backs with too-bright colors is weak. Simple verses accompany each picture. All of the illustrations are colorful and jolly and one cannot sneer at nine pop-ups. 2003, Silver Dolphin, Ages 3 to 6.
