Labor Union Law and Regulation - Book Reviews,
by William W. Osborne (Editor)
Labor Union Law and Regulation SYNOPSIS Written for union lawyers, officials, and members, this text explains labor law in the United States as it pertains to union finances and the obligations of union members and officers within their organizations. The text takes a topical approach to the complex topic, instead of the typical numeric sequence approach. The historic common law origins of union/member relations are examined as the genesis for federal law in the form of the National Labor Relations Act and the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act. The generation and disbursal of financial resources is treated next. The election of union officers, the union's obligation of fair representation of the members, and the negotiations of "closed shop" clauses are considered in subsequent chapters. Finally, the law governing inter-union relationships is examined, including relations between internationals and locals and between independent unions. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
