It was published in England after the war, in 1945, and gives an account unmediated by hindsight, undimmed by the passage of time. Alan Moorehead went on to become a frequent contributor The New Yorker and the author of such historical narratives Gallipoli, The White Nile, The Blue Nile, and African Trilogy. He died in 1983.
